We took the eight hour combined Hallstatt Sound of Music tour. Sylvia, a Berliner who lived in Florida has an excellent and detailed knowledge of the film and Saltzburg area. Regrettably Hallstatt is jammed with bus tour tourists even in November. This detracts from the visit. However Sylvia did a nice job introducing us to authentic Austrian artisans and restaurants along the way. We strongly recommend her.
Great tour though it would have been better if we were allowed to go down and take more pics in other tourist spots vs just driving through
Insango's local partner Bob's tour brought us to the main spots of sound of music scene and made stops for us to take pictures.
We also enjoyed the stay in Hallstatt around 2 hrs and later in the mondsee. If you want to have a relax and time saving tour for Salzburg, this tour is highly recommended.
Romance to the music: Salzburg is a city that will delight with its history and culture. Famous for the Sound of Music, you can take a tour and then head out on the river, taking in the sights and sounds as you gently cruise your way past the buildings. Romance with a hint of culture and history.
Top things to do: A river cruise is a delightful way to see the sight and the natural highlights, but what else does Salzburg offer? Well, there is the Sound of Music sights, and of course, Mozart was a resident here, so explore his legacy. Then there is the baroque style of the old town and Mirabell Square. Salzburg is a true delight on the river and on dry land.
Salzburg in the sun: Your best time visiting Salzburg is during the late summer and early autumn. The summer crowds are slowly ebbing away, and the gardens and surrounding countryside are beginning their colourful change. Spring is pleasant but can still be chilly.
• Salzburg’s meaning literally means ‘salt castle’. The reason? It’s all down to the salt mining that took place here.
* Up until 1816, Salzburg was its own country! We’ll let you think about that for a moment.
• Germany isn’t far away! So, why not pop over there and cover two countries in one go? It’s about 3 miles / 5km away.
