Relax and enjoy: You’ll find that Venice is a very safe destination to explore and discover. However, much like most destinations in Europe, where there are large groups of tourists, you’ll need to keep a watchful eye out for your belongings as pickpockets do operate. Waterbuses are one of the areas they operate in, so be vigilant.

Try something unique: Venice is the kind of place to try something different. It's just got that vibe. How about some mask-making, glassblowing or lacemaking? You could even enjoy a gondola river ride and wine tasting evening. Oh, how romantic.


• It snakes its way through the heart of the city, and there is many a tale to tell of the Grand Canal. The buildings you see along its shoreline have plenty of stories, many of them dating back to the 13th century and up to the 18th century. They've seen it all!

• The canal itself is some 16ft deep.

• The Rialto is one of the oldest bridges you’ll pass under as you head up the Grand Canal. It was completed in 1591 and was mentioned in Shakespeare’s, The Merchant of Venice.
